Foreign Students in Canada are Limited to 24 Hours of Employment Weekly

The official statement of Ministry of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship decided that Foreign Students in Canada can Only work for 24 hours per day. A research claimed that....

Currently, on April 30, Canada's Ministry of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada IRCC has taken a big step regarding the working time of foreign students outside the Campus. According to which Foreign Students are restricted to work for up to work for 24 hours weekly. Before this the working time was restricted to 20 hours per week. 

Mark Miller also said that students who have taken scheduled academic leave are allowed to work unlimited hours.

In a Tweet on platform X ( formerly known as Twitter ) Marc Miller the Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship stated that, "When we lifted the 20 hrs/week work rule for international students, we did so to support the post-pandemic recovery. Today, I announced that this measure will no longer be extended and, this fall, off-campus student work hours will be limited to 24 hrs/week,".

Significant Decline in performance 

The Ministry of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship states that, According to studies done on the students of United States and Canada, a significant decline in performance and boredom regarding study is seen in the students who work for more than 28 hours a week. Internationl Students working more than 24 hours per week increases the likelihood of a student dropping out of their programme.

Minister of IRCC Mark Miller also said that almost all the Nations that Welcome International Students have limited the working hours of Foreign Students. Australia has made a policy to make foreign students work for 48 hours in 2 weeks or 14 days. Canadian Universities allow International students to work out of campus only if the student fulfills their additional requirements.

Marc Tucker, They Come here to Study not to work 

Mark Tucker said that by working off campus, students get exposure to the outside world and got some freedom to support their expenses. When international students arrive in Canada, we want them to focus more on their studies and be fully prepared for life here. Marc Miller says that they have come here not to work but to study. The Canada government will Continue to maintain the integrity of the Students Program for their Welfare.
