Insights into Global Religious Diversity: A Brief Overview of the Study
According to the study published by the Economic Advisory Council of Prime Minister, the average Majority Denominations of all the 167 countries was 75% in 1950, after 65 years — in 2015, the shares of Average Majority Denominations fell by 21.9% to 54.1%. Some counties have even crossed this Average — the average Majority Religion Decline Rate of 20 out of 40 countries Stands at 29%.

Study Emphasis that the World has Become "Heterogeneous"

A Glance At India's Neighbouring Countries
If we talk about South Asia Counties or India's Neighboring Countries, only Maldives is a Muslim Based Country ( Sharif's Sunni ) in which the share of Majority Denominations has Declined by 1.47%.The majority religion of Myanmar is Buddhism — the share of Buddhism religion in Myanmar fell by 9.84% .In Nepal too, which is a Hindu Majority Country, there was a decline of 3.6% in Hindu Religion Shares.
“By way of illustration, India is one of the few countries which has a legal definition of minorities and provides constitutionally protected rights for them. The outcomes of these progressive policies and inclusive institutions are reflected in the growing number of minority populations within India,” Ravi a Member of Study said.
"We are interested in noting the composition of demographic changes in these countries because of their geographical proximity to India. Therefore, any significant fluctuation in their population has a spillover effect on the polity and policies of India,” the study reads.
Majority Religion share Falling

Meanwhile, Afghanistan's Muslim population increased from 99.4% to 99.7% (increased by 0.29%). The same scenario was seen in Pakistan too, an increase of 3.75% was seen in the number of Muslims in Pakistan.

In Sri Lanka also the share of Majority Religion Denomination increased by 5.25%. In Bangladesh too, an increase of 18.55% was recorded in Majority Religion Denomination. The share of Majority Religion in Bhutan increased by 18.55% in 65 years.
Minorities in India Not Just Protected But Thriving
"Contrary to the noise in several quarters, careful analysis of the data shows that minorities are not just protected but indeed thriving in India. This is particularly remarkable given the wider context within the South Asian neighborhood, where the share of the majority religious denomination has increased and minority populations have shrunk alarmingly across countries like Bangladesh, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bhutan and Afghanistan,” it says, referring to the situation in India.
Flourishing The Minorities
"Our hypothesis is that the change in the proportion of the minority population as a share of total population is a good proxy for the status of minorities in a country over time. A society which provides a congenial environment for the flourishing of minorities is more likely to witness an increase or stabilization in their numbers over a period of three generations.”
