World's Ugliest Dog Contest: Pekingese Named "Wild Thang" 1st Runner Up

Recently, in the World's Ugliest Dog Contest held in Petaluma City, "Wild Thang" of Pekingese breed became the winner by securing first place. 8 year old Wild Thang has been suffering from a serious disease called "Canine Distemper" for several years. Winner Wild Thang and his owner Lewis get $5,000 as reward. 

1st Runner up of World's Ugliest Dog Contest 2024 is "Wild Thang" 

This year the World's Ugliest Dog Contest was held on June 22 in Petaluma city of California in the United States. The World's Ugliest Dog Contest in the United States is so popular that approximately 20,000 to 30,000 people watch it live every year. The Official Website Marked,

Wild Thang Participated for the Fifth Time 

According to multiple reports, winner Wild Thang has participated in the World's Ugliest Dog Contest for the fifth time, Wild Thang has been in second position three times. Winner originally belongs to Los Angeles and moved to North Bend, Oregon to Fully enjoy his retirement. 


Wild Thang Suffered from a Disease named, "Canine Distemper"

 

 
The main reason behind this strange appearance of "Wild Thang" and his winning the World's Ugliest Dog Contest today is an "illness". Wild Thang suffered from a disease called "Canine Distemper" at the age of 10 weeks. 

Due to this illness the teeth of Wild Thang were not growing and along with that his tongue had come out, the muscles of one of his legs were also not developing. 

Owner Lewis Won Prize Money of $5,000 

On winning this contest, the winner and his owner are given $5,000 as a prize — the winner Wild Thang and his owner Lewis also get $5,000 as a prize. After winning the contest, owner Lewis looked very happy and happily lifts his dog Wild Thang in his lap and caresses it lovingly.  The 14 year old Rome who came second in the contest got $3,000 as a reward.


You can see in the photo that in one hand Lewis is holding his dog "Wild Thang" and in the other hand he is holding a big certificate on which "Wild Thang" is written in big letters. $5,000 is written on its side and "First" is written in the section of the memo.

This contest was organized during Sonam-Marin Fair. 8 participants took part in it in which most of the dogs were rescued from shelter before finding their Permanent Home. 

It was first Organised in 1970 

This contest is not new, rather it is older than the 5 decades — this contest was held for the first time in 1970. Initially, the main aim of this contest was to generate money for the Old Adobe Association of Petaluma, but gradually it became popular and today, years after this contest, it remains in the news "spotlight". 

Mainly dogs from the United States participate in this but any dog from the world can participate in it. In this, pet dog owners have to get veterinary checks done to prove the health of their dogs. Every year before the World Ugliest Dog Contest is held, the list of its contestants is featured on the website.

Winner of Previous Years

Its winner in 2024 is "Wild Thang" who belongs to Coos Bay of Oregon — Wild Thang is only 8 years old. 
Last year in 2023, the winner of the World's Ugliest Dog Contest was 7 year old Chinese Crested Scooter. Earlier in 2022, its winner was 17th year Mr Happy Face who was a dog of hairless Chinese Crested. The World's Ugliest Dog Contest was cancelled in 2020 and 2022 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
