Impacted Thousands of Car Dealer In United States Impacted by CDK's Cyberattack 

Recently, a cyber attack impacted several auto dealerships in the United States, forcing their computer systems to be shut down. So far, CDK and its spokesperson Lisa Finney have not clarified what specific type of cyber attack it was.

North American originated CDK Global company is right now battling a severe cyber attack due to which the company had to shut down its computer system and take its business transactions offline for some time due to the cyber attack.The Company Marked, 

“Erring on the side of caution, we proactively shut all systems down and executed extensive testing and consulted with external third-party experts. With the work done so far, our core DMS and Digital Retailing solutions have been restored. 

"We are continuing to conduct extensive tests on all other applications, and we will provide updates as we bring those applications back online. Our first priority is always the security of our customers, and our actions reflect our obligation to them as a trusted partner.”

Major Reasons for Cyberattack, Study Marked

CDK’s research found that the biggest reason for cyber attacks on dealers include Email Phishing scams, PC Virus/malware, Stolen/weak Password, Ransomware, Lack of Awareness.

According to a CNN report, global provider CDK, which is used by 15,000 auto dealers, was badly affected by the cyber attack. 


"Actively Investigating" Spokesperson Lisa Finney marked, 

CDK immediately gave its response on this Cyberattack, it's spokesperson and CDK senior manager of external communications, Lisa Finney said that the company is "actively investigating", she further said that due to customer's concerns CDK has shut down most of its computer systems and assured to fix "everything" as soon as possible.

“We are actively investigating a cyber incident. Out of an abundance of caution and concern for our customers, we have shut down most of our systems and are working diligently to get everything up and running as quickly as possible.”

The Company “shut all systems down, executed extensive testing and consulted with external third-party experts.” a Spokesperson told Bloomberg Via Email. 

17% of Car Dealers faced Cyberattack, study found

A study was conducted last year by CDC which revealed that 17% of car dealers had to face cyberattack in the previous year. There was a lot of discussion on this issue in the press release last year, in which the CDK Global senior vice president and general manager of IT Solutions. David LaGreca marked, 

“Cybercriminals are increasingly targeting auto retailers utilizing sophisticated methods meant to appear from secure and trusted sources. Unfortunately, human error can waylay the best-laid plans and put a dealership at serious risk. Employee awareness training should play an integral role in a dealership’s plan to prevent potential cyber threats."

"Had my car worked on today, and the dealership is panicking because their cdk software is down nationwide. Yet another cyber attack. God only knows whose data is being exposed.
