Light Out: Major Blackout on Disney Entertainment Channels : Subscribers Removed their Subscription from Disney Owned Channels, ABC and ESPN Removed from Channel DirecTV Channel list. DirecTV Claimed that Disney is Demanding for "unreasonable" Discount from Streaming Service Provider DirecTV.
Light Out : There has been a big change in the subscription of television channels in the United States, recently there has been a huge drop in the subscription of Disney owned channels in the US.
So many customers of DirecTV have cancelled their subscription from famous Disney owned channels like ESPN and ABC. This huge blackout means that majority of Americans do not watch the U.S. Open tennis tournament which airs on these channels. In a Latest Statement DirecTV Claimed,
"Disney’s only magic is forcing prices to go up while simultaneously making its content disappear"
Major Outrage in Streaming Service Provider "DirecTV" Subscription List
Nearly 11 million Satellite subscribers of DirecTV in the United States have been directly affected by the blackout.
This Major Outrage of DirecTV's customers is directly reflects the irregular agreements between the programming companies and it's Distributors. Due to which many times DirecTV customers face barriers in watching their favourite shows regularly, as the Agreement between the companies changes Many times.
Subscribers are Frustrated with the High Steaming Cost
The Customers are already frustrated with the high cost of Streaming Service Provider and this long-standing problem is leading to a major blackout of Disney-owned channels.
From one perspective, The Subscribers call DirecTV's subscription expensive. On the Flip Side, in a statment, Streaming service provider DirecTV Highlighted that it cost very little in respect of its High Streaming service.
In a collective Statment, The Co-chairman of Disney Entertainment and the Chairman of ESPN Dana Walden, Alan Bergman, and Jimmy Pitaro Highlighted,
"We invest significantly to deliver the No. 1 brands in entertainment, news and sports because that’s what our viewers expect and deserve,”“We urge DirecTV to do what’s in the best interest of their customers and finalize a deal that would immediately restore our programming.” the statement further reads.
One of the Most Popular Media Network Disney has emphasized that the rates they're requesting from DirecTV are in line with what other providers pay and reflect the value of their content.
“Disney is in the business of creating alternate realities, but this is the real world where we believe you earn your way and must answer for your own actions,”
"Disney’s only magic is forcing prices to go up while simultaneously making its content disappear" he further added.
Alternatively, DirecTV claims that Media Network Disney is demanding "unreasonable" discounts from them during negotiations, which they are not willing to accept.
Disney wants DirecTV to agree not to sue them in the future over claims that their actions are unfair or anti-competitive. This means DirecTV would give up its right to take any legal action against Disney in relation to this matters.
What USTA is Reacting to this Disagreement?
In a Latest Statement United States Tennis Association showed Disappointment and highlighted "unresolved negotiation" between Disney and DirecTV. Marked,
"It is disappointing that fans and viewers around the country will not have the opportunity to watch the greatest athletes in our sport take part in the 2024 U.S."
"Open due to an unresolved negotiation between DirecTV and Disney, resulting in the loss of access to ESPN. We are hopeful that this dispute can be resolved as quickly as possible,” the USTA said in a statement.
