Honk Kong and Singapore CFS found Cancer Causing Chemicals in 4 Indian Spice Product

Hongkong and Singapore CFS found that Indian Spice Product including MDH powder and Everest Masala  Contains excessive amount of Cancer Causing Chemical named as "Ethylene Oxide"


On April 5, Hong Kong's Center of Food Safety revealed its Shocking research that some spice products from famous Indian spices brands like MDH and Everest contain chemicals that can Cause cancer. This information was released by the Hong Kong Food Safety Center on April 5, but a few days later, some shocking news also came from the Food Safety Center of Singapore, after which headlines are being distributed on this topic.

The Four Spices 


Hong Kong's Center of Food Safety, in its research found that 3 spices of India's popular brand MDH and 1 spice product of Everest Contains an ingredient chemical called "Ethylene Odide" which is used in making pesticide, and it's over use in intake leads to Harmful Diseases like Cancer.

The Three Spices of MDH brand include Madras Curry Powder, Sambhar Masala ( Mixed Masala Powder ), and Everest Fish Curry Masala ( Fish Curry mixed Masala ).

Hong Kong CFS revealed Shocking Research 


In the Press Release of Hong kong CFS  a spokesperson stated, "The CFS collected the above-mentioned samples from three retail outlets in Tsim Sha Tsui respectively for testing under its routine Food Surveillance Programme. The test results showed that the samples contained a pesticide, ethylene oxide. The CFS has informed the vendors concerned of the irregularities and instructed them to stop sale and remove from shelves the affected products."

"According to the CFS's instructions, the distributors/importers concerned have initiated recalls on the affected products. Members of the public may call the respective hotlines above during office hours for enquiries about the recalls of the products concerned."

Offender liable to fine ₹ 4.16 Crore 


The spokesperson further added, "The International Agency for Research on Cancer has classified ethylene oxide as a Group 1 carcinogen. According to the Pesticide Residues in Food Regulation (Cap. 132CM), a food for human consumption containing pesticide residue may only be sold if consumption of the food is not dangerous or prejudicial to health. An offender is liable to a maximum fine of $50,000 and to imprisonment for six months upon conviction."

Moreover, "The CFS will alert the trade, continue to follow up on the incidents and take appropriate action. Investigations are ongoing."

Singapore Food Advisory said,


Apart from this, Singapore Food Safety Center also warned people about the dangerous chemicals found in these brands and said that, "Ethylene oxide is a pesticide that is not authorised for use in food. It can be used to fumigate agricultural products to prevent microbial contamination. Under Singapore’s Food Regulations, ethylene oxide is allowed to be used in the sterilisation of spices,” said the SFA.

It further Added, "Therefore, exposure to this substance should be minimised as much as possible. Consumers who have purchased the implicated products are advised not to consume them. Those who have consumed the implicated products and have concerns about their health should seek medical advice. Consumers may contact their point of purchase for enquiries,”.

Banned 4 Indian spices 


Let us tell you that as soon as the Hong Kong food Safety Agency has found that Indian Spice Brand contains chemicals that can cause cancer, then Immediately Hong Kong Government has demanded the return of Everest and MDH spices imported from India. And the agency also reported that it will continue its investigation regarding this matter. Also Hong Kong banned  these 4 Indian spices.


Alert for Consumers 


Apart from this, the advisory alerted the people and said, "Consumers who have purchased the affected products are strongly advised against consumption. Furthermore, individuals who have consumed the implicated products and harbor health concerns are urged to seek medical guidance."
