International Labor Organization is a United States governing body that works on labor related issues and is very helpful for the core development of the nation. ILO has a total of 187 state members, India has been an important founding member since 1922.

To determine the living wages of any nation, the estimated income that should be required to meet the basic needs of people like healthcare, food, education, clothing, housing is called living wages. According to the official website of ILO, the meaning of living wages is as follows, " The wage level that is necessary to afford a decent standard of living for workers and their families, taking into account the country circumstances and calculated for the work performed during the normal hours of work;”.

Outcome of a Survey

According to the report, approximately 500 million i.e. 50 crore people  work as laborers in India, out of which 90% work in the unorganised sector at very low wages. However, to deal with the problem of low wages, in 2019, Anoop Satpathy's panel proposed to introduce a wage code, but till now this wage code has not been implemented in India. According to which the daily wage of a person should be Rs 375. Which would be equally applicable in each state of India applicable.
