Internet suspension in Punjab extended till 24 February 2024

Mystery of Home Affairs issued statement. In which suspension of internet facility in the areas falling within 20 police stations of 7 districts of Punjab including Patran, Jhulka or Devigarh.

The period has been extended to 24th February.

The period of suspension of internet facility in Punjab and Haryana has been extended by a special act - telegraph act 1885. Internet facility suspension in Punjab will start at 11:59 am 17 February 2024 to 11:59 am on 24 February 2024. 

According to the special order of Central Ministry, the period of suspension of internet has been extended in areas including areas falling under Shambhu, Julkan, Passian, Patran, Shatrana, Samana, Ghanaur, Devigarh and Balbhera police stations in Patiala; Lalru police station in Mohali;  Killianwali police station in Muktsar; Sangat police station in Bathinda; Sardulgarh and Boha police stations in Mansa; and Khanauri, Moonak, Lehra, Sunam and Chajli police stations in Sangrur; and areas under Fatehgarh Sahib police station.

"In exercise of the power conferred by section 7 of Indian Telegraph Act, 1885 read with Sub-rule 1 of Rule 2 of the Temporary Suspension of Telecom Services (Public Emergency or Public Safety) Rules 2017, and in the interest of maintaining public safety and averting public emergency, it is necessary and expedient to order, the temporary suspension of internet services from 00:00 Hrs on February 17, 2024 to 23:59 Hrs on February 24, 2024 in the following areas," the order read.

Internet facility is not only supspended in Punjab but Haryana government has also suspended internet and bulk SMS facility in many districts of Haryana including Ambala, Kurukshetra, Fatehabad, Hisar, Jind, Sirsa and Kaithal.

Recently, Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann said on this matter that if the law is implemented, it will be applicable in the entire country, but it will also benefit all the states, so it is for them to decide. He said that being the CM of Punjab, he requests his farmers to maintain peace and he does not want his youth and his farmers to sit there.

He further said that there should be no harm to each other: this is a wrong thing. He further says that he walks in a positive attitude and is performing his duty. Be it midnight or afternoon, they are standing with their people and farmers.
