A person in Oregon caught Bubonic plague from contact with a sick cat


Recently on 7 February, a  case of Bubonic plaque was found in Oregon, a state in the US, after which it was confirmed that the cause of bubonic plague was said to be contact with a sick cat.

According to a report bubonic plague is so deadly that the victim dies within 8 days of suffering from it. A gram negative bacteria yersinia pestis is responsible for Bubanic plague.
This deadly bacteria is mainly found in rodents and their fleas.

After suffering from this bacterial disease, the victim has seen symptoms like high fever, headache, nausea, freckle like dots and rashes, painful aching joints.

Bubonic plaque brought a dreadful pandemic that wreaked havoc in Europe in the 14th century. According to reports, about one third of Europe's population lost their lives in the Bubonic plague pandemic between 1347-1353. And about 33% of the population in the Middle East lost their lives.

After exact confirmation of bubonic plague, both the victim and the cat were given proper treatment, but the cat's life could not be saved.

According to Deschutes authorities, this is the first case of Bubonic plague in Oregon state since 2015. On which the authorities say that there is no need to worry too much about this. The authority official said that this virus can be found in squirrels and chipmunks and there is a possibility of this virus being found in mice or rodents also.

In the current time medication for this dreadful plague. Robert Cyril Bollinger an expert in infectious disease as well as a professor of medicine said that "We have really good treatments, if we get them to people earlier, that weren't available back in the day," Bollinger said. "There's lots of antibiotics that work really well. If you start early enough, it's very treatable."

He further added "With proper treatment, a bubonic plague infection could clear up "over a period of weeks,".
